Sephora Haul!

Hi girls! Oh, my, goodness, I LOVE SEPHORA!! The last time I went I was 10 and only interested in their nail polish. I went Saturday, and I had to restrict myself to three things. I probably spent a half hour in there trying out everything, and I mean everything! So without further ado, here it all is. (And I am 110% satisfied with my purchases!)

First, I'll talk about the Urban Decay Summer of Love kit. I knew I wanted something from Urban Decay, as I'd never tried the brand before, and I was about to buy the single eyeshadow in 'Chopper' for $17. However, then I saw the Summer of Love kit! For $24, it includes four eyeshadows, an eyeliner, and their famous primer potion in Sin. The pigmentation of everything is AMAZING! The eyeshows are fabulous, the eyeliner glides on beautifully, and the primer potion intensifies any eyeshadow times ten.... needless to say, I love it all. :) And FYI, none are full sized, but hey I can repurchase if I run out!
Eyeshadows in Flash, Maui Wowie, Chopper, and Smog; 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner in Bourbon; Primer Potion in Sin.

Next, a bronzer! It's almost summer, and bronzer is definitely a must. I've heard great things about this Hoola bronzer by Benefit. First, let me just say the packaging is adorable, and it comes with a cute little brush... which I will probably not use, and it sheds, but it's convenient if I'm going to throw this into my purse. I tried it out, and I love it! Not orange, not muddy, but the perfect matte brown that will make you look beautifully sunkissed. It applied wonderfully, and this bronzer will become a part of my daily routine.

Finally, my first Nars purchase ever! It's their blush in... you guessed it, Orgasm. It's probably the most highly acclaimed blush ever, though I've heard all of the Nars  blushes are great. The reviews are correct, this peachy pink blush gives me the perfect flush, that 'I just woke up like this' glow. Finely milled gold shimmer adds a subtle sheen. This is also a new part of my daily routine! :)
The color is actually a bit darker than it appears in this picture.

Can you tell I'm super excited?? Anyways, I've learned that Sephora is my new heaven, and now I know what to ask for for my birthday... Sephora gift card! Next time I will have to get Benefit's primer and High Beam, as well as more Nars blushes, a multiple, and a lip gloss. *Guilty smile*
Anyways, I'll stop rambling now! Talk to you all later!
  Love, Val
P.S. You want it, I'll do it! Help me out and comment me with requests!

Drugstore Dupe: Stila's 'Kitten'

Hi girls! So I was looking through my eyeshadows the other day, and my Stila trio was right next to my CoverGirl trio. I realized then that Stila's color 'Kitten' (their most popular shade!) looked practically identical to the lightest shade in CoverGirl's trio (in 110 shimmering sands). Both shadows are a beautiful soft frosty pink with some shimmer. Here's a couple photos so you can decide for yourself:

Stila on the left, CoverGirl on the right.
(Sorry for the green blob  in the second pic - it's my lamp. Also, my fingers are not red, the lighting is weird!)

As you can see in the swatch, the colors are similar, though Stila's is more gold, CoverGirl's more frosty. Also, the Stila shade of course has better pigmentation. However, on my lids I can't see a difference, so I'd say if you're lusting after Kitten, try out CoverGirl next time you're at the drugstore.

Buy Stila's 'Kitten' here ($18); buy CoverGirl's trio '110 Shimmering Sands' here ($5).

All for now! Let me know if you like and want more 'drugstore dupes'! :)

Love, Val

P.S. In case you're interested in the trios - a couple more pictures after the jump.

Review: Revlon PhotoReady Foundation

Hey guys! As promised, here is my review of a new liquid foundation of mine, Revlon PhotoReady Makeup. To avoid making this review tedious, I'm going to break it up into segments. :)

Coverage
Though the bottle claims complete coverage, I'd call this more of a medium coverage foundation. It's definitely buildable though - if you use more product, it can work up to full coverage. This covers minor flaws, but if I have a blemish I like to use concealer over.
Consistency
This foundation has a heavenly consistency - not runny like some liquid foundations, rather it felt creamier. It blends very smoothly. I like to apply this foundation with my fingers for more control.
Finish
PhotoReady gives the most gorgeous dewy (not oily) finish! I never use powder over this, because that would just take away all the dewiness.
Price
I'm not a huge fan of Revlon's prices, as they're on the high end of drugstore makeup. I got this foundation for $13.49 at CVS, and it contains the standard 1 fluid ounce.
Color Selection
Now, this is one section where this makeup is lacking. There are only 12 color selections, and I've heard many people couldn't find their correct match. However I lucked out and found the perfect match for my skin tone, which is 004 Nude.
Shimmer
If you've been doing your research on PhotoReady Foundation, you'll know that it does contain shimmer. As soon as I purchased this, I took a small dab and blended into my hand. The shimmer is visible, but it's not like clumpy glitter, just tiny reflective bits. I thought the shimmer would bother me a ton, but turns out it doesn't bother me at all. I like the idea of shining when the sun catches you just right. However, opinions vary from person to person, which is why I would recommend sampling this foundation at a friend's or at the store to decide what you think of the shimmer.
Extras
One of my favorite aspects of PhotoReady: it comes with a pump! That means you can get the exact same amount of foundation every time, with no mess. Also it contains SPF 20 (though I wear sunscreen under it for full protection). It's oil-free and fragrance-free.
Overall
Test this out before purchasing to decide what you think about the shimmer. Otherwise, this is a great drugstore find that leaves me with medium coverage, a dewy finish and a smile. I'm giving this 4.5/5 stars, and I definitely recommend it.

Let me know what your favorite liquid foundation is, and if you have PhotoReady tell me if you like it too!
All for now -
Love, Val

Oh, and in case you can tell - here is a drop of the foundation on my wrist so you can see the consistency.

CoverGirl Haul!

Hey girls! So I went to CVS a week ago (NEVER let me loose in a CVS. I will want EVERYTHING!) and I got five things. One was a Sally Hansen eyelash curler, another was Revlon Photoready Liquid Foundation, and the other three were all CoverGirl products. Since eyelash curlers are pretty self-explanatory, and I'm going to review PhotoReady soon, I decided to haul the CoverGirl products. Enjoy!

  • First is a relatively new product, LashBlast Volume. I have never owned the famed LashBlast, but I love my LashExact, so I decided to buy. The applicator is very thick, with rubber bristles. I only had to apply a few strokes to get excellent length, volume, and fanned-out lashes. New favorite? Definitely. However if you layer this mascara too much it will clump and look fake/spidery, so avoid coating this on.
  • Next is WetSlicks lip gloss. I've needed a clear lip gloss for a while - great when you want to add shine to your natural lip color, or gloss over the perfect lipstick. As far as glosses go, this one is pretty standard. Kudos to CoverGirl for the non-stickiness and the yummy scent, though.
  • Finally a product I have owned before, CG's eyeshadow trio in 110 shimmering sands. This was my first eyeshadow ever and it ran out a few months ago, so the time was ripe for a new one. Fabulous quality, especially considering it's drugstore, and very pigmented. The colors are perfect for a shimmery neutral eye.
All for now! Look out for a Revlon PhotoReady Foundation review soon, and see more photos of the CoverGirl stuff after the jump!

Love, Val

My Mom's Fresh-Faced Makeup

Hey all! Sorry for the lame lack of posts lately, I've been super busy but it's the weekend now and I can post! Yay!
So a week ago my mom had a reunion to go to, and she said I could do her makeup for the event! She requested a neutral, natural look that was only a small step up from her everyday makeup. When we were done, she looked great! Here's a quick summary of what I did.

From left to right - Top row: Avon Face Cream, La Mer Foundation in 03 Buff, Maybelline Cover Stick in Medium Beige, Dulce Cosmetics Powder in 02, Dulce Cosmetics Muffin Cake Blusher in 04, D.C. Brilliant Fusion Eyeshadow Palette in 02, L'Oréal Telescopic Clean Definition mascara, L'Oréal Le Kohl Pencil in Onyx, Neutrogena Lip Color in 20 Nectar, Neutrogena Lip Gloss in Glisten 20.

Sonia Kashuk Essential Eye Brush Set; Bare Escentuals Brushes in Flawless Face, Full Flawless Face, and Max Coverage Concealer, La Mer Foundation Brush.

First I prepped her skin by having her cleanse and apply her Avon cream. Then, using her La Mer foundation and the matching brush, I applied her foundation, leaving her with clearer, even skin. Then I used my concealer brush and her Maybelline Cover Stick to conceal her undereyes and redness around the nose, as well as a few spots. Next, I buffed a powder into her face with my Full Flawless Face brush, giving a matte finish. I then used the gorgeous, peachy blush on her apples using my Flawless Face brush.
For the eyes, I used my Brilliant Fusion palette - the pink on her lid, gold in her crease, and pearl color as a highlight. I lengthened her lashes with Clean Definition mascara, then let her apply her Le Kohl eyeliner as she likes. For the lips, I used her Neutrogena Lipstick, then a gloss over.
The overall look is very natural, glowy, and great for everyday. My mom left a satisfied customer. :)
More beauty posts soon - other than that, all for now!
  Love, Val
